Southern Miss will move forward with the remainder of the 2020 season without senior quarterback Jack Abraham.

The preseason All-C-USA signal-caller hasn’t played since suffering a concussion in the team’s Halloween loss to Rice, and now it appears that Abraham, who also dealt with a positive COVID-19 test earlier this season, has likely played his final snap as Golden Eagle.

Monday, interim head coach Tim Billings acknowledged that Abraham was no longer with the team.

“One thing about Jack [is that] he was here and no one worked any harder than he did and was more committed to this football team while he was here, but he’s no longer here,” Billings said. Our deal is ‘next, here we go.’”

That leaves sophomore Tate Whatley and Trey Lowe III, a West Virginia transfer, as the top two candidates to lead the USM offense for their final four games. Billings stated that Whatley is likely to return from an injury this week when Southern Miss takes on UTSA. Lowe got the start last week in USM’s 10-7 loss to Western Kentucky.

Abraham will finish his season with a final stat line of 97-149 for 1,224 yards with 7 touchdowns ad 4 interceptions.
