Reeves, Hood pick up key endorsements in race for Governor

Republican Tate Reeves and Democrat Jim Hood have each picked up key endorsements in the race for Governor.

Earlier this week at the NRA’s national police shooting competition in Mississippi, the Mississippi Police Benevolent Association announced their support for Reeves. In their announcement, the organization cited Reeves’ pro-law enforcement policies during his time as Lt. Governor.

“The association reviewed the records and policies of the candidates in the race for governor, concluding that Tate Reeves will be the champion for law enforcement that Mississippians deserve. As Lt. Governor, Tate Reeves has made support for law enforcement a priority—passing increased benefits after officers are killed in the line of duty and promoting state and local law enforcement.”

In response to the endorsement, Reeves said, “I am honored to receive the support of Mississippi’s law enforcement community. As Governor, I will always work to protect the safety of Mississippi families by backing the blue. These law enforcement officers do dangerous work on behalf of our citizens, and I am proud to stand behind them.”

In a Facebook post, the Mississippi Association of Educators announced that they’ll be backing Hood in the race because the organization believes that the current Attorney General will prioritize Mississippi’s educators and public schools.

“It’s time for those who have been given ample time to prove that public education means more to them than election-year pandering to make way for candidates who will prioritize Mississippi’s educators and the 90% of Mississippi children who attend public schools,” MAE President Erica Jones said. “In the race to become Mississippi’s next governor, that candidate is Attorney General Jim Hood.”

On October 10th, the two candidates will meet for a debate in Hattiesburg. The debate will be hosted by WJTV and can be heard on select SuperTalk Mississippi stations/supertalk.fm.

Election Day is November 5th.
